Nab Court issues arrest warrant against EX PM

In the recent development in two cases on the disqualified Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the nab court issued bailable arrest warrants on 26 Oct 2017. Disqualified Nawaz is facing two cases over corruption charges for which National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed references. Pakistan’s elite accountability body NAB which has its own courts started a trial of Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Captain Safdar and Ishaq Dar. The court has already issued warrants for Captain Safdar and Maryam Safdar. Ishaq Dar, the Finance Minister of Pakistan is already facing references.

NAB court issued warrants of Nawaz in Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investments Limited references. Before this, he was disqualified by the Supreme Court of Pakistan for not providing sufficient evidence for his claims.

On Thursday, 2 out of 26 witnesses appeared before the court and recorded their statements. A team of NAB was also present in the court.

Sharif is currently out of the country. He is offering pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia and after that, he is planned to travel to the UK where he will visit his sick wife. Khawaja Harris, the lawyer of Nawaz was, however, present in the court.

As the proceedings started, Khawaja Harris filed an application before the judge seeking exemption his client’s personal appearance in court for seven days.

The court reserved the judgment on the application, later on announcing the decision, the court issued arrest warrants for EX PM while dismissing his plea. The hearing was adjourned till Nov 3.

Maryam Nawaz, the eldest of Nawaz Sharif daughters goes obstinate on arrest warrants:

Maryam Nawaz, one of Nawaz Sharif’s daughters, went obstinate over the decision after coming out of court premises. She was also charge sheeted for being the beneficiary owner of Aven Field Apartments, which sharif family owns. In a talk to journalists outside court, she attained a defiant tone asking: “Is the entire law only for Nawaz Sharif?”

She also claimed in the same speech that the evidence against her family “are not being searched but prepared”. Adding to her statement she told reporters National Accountability Court could not find any evidence against her family in London.

Entire Sharif family including Nawaz Sharif’s sons, Hassan and Hussain are facing references in the country’s accountability court.
